Now that The Next Cool Event is over for another year, we have some reflections on our favorite things….The mark of a professional is someone who shows their true colors when under stress and the winner in this category goes to Pat Shankle Interiors for the exhibit Modern Times, where it all began. Not only was this team’s exhibit in the Welcome Tent by far the most put together, original and beautiful of all the exhibits but when you consider that the original furnishings suppliers pulled out at the last minute, then the tent was flooded and the exhibit moved indoors…never once was there drama. The team mobilized and made decisions to make it work. These are the kind of people you want to recommend.
The next team we give the professional award to was the team with Mathews Furniture who did True Blood by Nina Nash and Joe Gallo. Beautiful space, professionally put together, organized and no drama. Effortless was the word most people used to describe this team.
The Color Purple team of steve mckenzie’s and KMH Interiors was the most original creating a signature chandelier.
Other favorites: nobody could quit talking about Nothing Bundt Cakes…to die for little cakes that are most definitely the next cool thing to serve. LOVED the carved letters created by Parallax Digital.

Atlanta costumer Sarah Falls with IATSE Local 479 and Southeast Costume Company have already brought people to The Next Cool Event but we are not sure they are alive….not yet. Starting tomorrow night, members of this union (no, this is not a picture of them) and the Teamsters Local 728 will be on hand at the first reunion of film and television professionals to discuss who they are and what they do as part of the industry with all of our special guests. We started load in yesterday for The Next Cool Event and watching all the creative people involved in collaborating to produce this event is inspiring. We got a peek at a totally unique chandelier that is being created for The Color Purple exhibit by Steve Mckenzie’s and KMH Interiors that is going in tomorrow. The flying mannequins are coming in today with Wellspring Living and Dana Konick, who works for our non-profit benefactor in community outreach and also as a costumer professionally herself with Whitestone Motion Pictures.

I have become fascinated by the art of photography and some of the phenomenal talent that is here. I’m also excited to share some of these great finds with you at The Next Cool Event. Mark Millen of M-Design is putting an exhibit together of photos taken with cell phones. Who knew? Mine never look like this.
This is a recent shot Doug Sturgess took in Asheville with his iphone that will be included in the exhibit. Doug is also bringing some of his amazing shots of Atlanta to the event in our exhibit to promote our insiders guides for the West Midtown Design District, the Highland Corridor of Atlanta and Buckhead.
Doug is also one of the official photographers for the event along with Terry Thomas who took some of our favorite photos at the event two years ago. We also have a 10′ X 16 ‘ step and repeat this year by Parallax Digital and a green screen photo booth with scenes of locations around Georgia so we can get great shots of you. We figured you ought to be in pictures, so we’ve got you covered. Get ready for a wild ride…May 3 & 4 at
The Next Cool Event. See you then!

Every year we go on the search for cool people, places and things that you may not know about and every year we find ourselves knocking on the door of http://www.coolchairz.com to get them to bring something to show. This is the cool orange bar stool which is a set of four going in the Oz Publishing book signing lounge. Thanks Kevin! Love these and want to take them home
